These looms will be used to produce fabric with jacquard designs. Jacquard designs are used for home fursnishing, fashion and also technical fabric applications.
Any loom can be used for jacquard. Instead of a dobby or cam motion it is fitted with a gear box that will transmit the movement to the jacquard head which is on the gaintry above the loom. There are still few projectle jacquard looms but their numbers are getting lesser.
Wider jacquard looms above 320cm will be used for home furnishing.Popular manufacturers for wider jacquard looms are Somet and Dornier. Q: What is the benefit of using a jumbo Staubli jacquard loom with 10000 hooks or more compared to a 2688 hooks Staubli jacquard loom
A: You will have much more flexibility in design creation if you use an jacquard head with a great number of hooks. Example with a 2688 hooks jacquard loom in 4 repeats you will only be able to weave 4 repeats in 2688 hooks in the fabric width. If you have a 10,000 hooks jacquard loom you will be to weave as many repeats as you whish - 1 repeat in 10000 hooks, 5 repeats in 2000 hooks, etc - which is possible because of individualt threat control. One hook will list one thread in a Jumbo jacahrd loom in comparison with 1 hook will lift 4 threads or more in the case of a samller capacity jacquard head.
